PhD
Departments and Programs
At
the end of the second year of medical school, students choose
a department in which to do thesis research. The typical
student spends a year doing rotations and then chooses a
PhD mentor, but some are ready to choose the mentor and
research lab by the end of the second year of medical school.
Duke has a wide variety of departments and programs in which
students can do the PhD. Much work at Duke is cross-departmental
and interdisciplinary. A student may choose a mentor in
one department and at the same time work closely with others
across department lines.
